Hello. Welcome to the homepage of the Camden Town Group - and haven't they made it homely.
I don't know them from Adam - in fact, at the time of writing this, some of them haven't
even been born yet1. Still - it's really exciting to be writing this blurb.
Anyway, it seems this "group" is a floating music collective with fifteen collaborators
spread across five cities and two continents - I suppose their
BIOGRAPHY
should at least make for interesting reading. They seem to do a bit of Jazz, a bit of Soul,
even a bit of Pop – but then by the time you read this, genre-pigeonholing will have
hopefully become an anachronism.
But I'm more interested in you - I wonder where you are reading this.
Maybe at work - naughty! - in which case the
NEWS
page might look like something official if your boss walks past. Or perhaps
you're one of those people who looks really important accessing the internet on
public transport on a cool handheld - in which case, show a little volume awareness
if you decide to listen to some of the
SONGS, will you?
Or you might be reading this on a laptop via a WiFi2 link in a
fashionable American café where the coffees are laced with highly-flavoured syrups –
you could always
CONTACT
the "group", but you're probably too busy, or perhaps just a little anti-social. (Interestingly, I am
writing this in a café, in Austria, long before the invention of the internet,
or Jazz-Funk fusion, or even soya frappuccinos.)
Speaking of being busy/anti-social, there’s a list of Camden Town Group’s imaginary
friends, some more of their songs, plus all the usual guff over at their
MYSPACE SPACE.
If you want my opinion, all those myspace types should get out more.
Whatever happened to good conversation?
I wonder what you do for a living – maybe something exciting, like making movies,
or adverts. Or even goal-of-the-month compilations. In which case, you just might
find the appropriate soundtrack amongst their
PRODUCTION MUSIC.
Or if you’re like me – and I think you are – and easily bored, then there are
LINKS
here to some other sites the “group” find interesting, including one
where you can buy their album. Finally, just like in the movies, let’s roll the
CREDITS.
Well, that's that. I have to say it's been one of the more difficult jobs I’ve had –
writing about something that won’t happen for another 37 years involves a
fair amount of speculation – but it has been kind of fun. And who knows, maybe I even got a
few things right. Thanks for reading! Ciao!
1I am writing this in 1970.
2I have no idea what WiFi is - it's 1970.
